Russian and Belarusian fencers cleared for international competitions with anthem and national symbols
The International Fencing Federation (FIE) made this decision.
The organization’s press release notes that Russian and Belarusian athletes will be able to compete without restrictions starting with the World Championships in China. It will take place on July 22–30 in Hong Kong.
In its decision, the FIE refers to the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) May recommendation to drop the requirement for Belarusian athletes to compete in neutral status.
Previously, adult athletes competed in FIE tournaments under neutral status; juniors had their flag and anthem restored in December 2025.
