Russia bans imports from Armenia of eggplants, potatoes, dried fruit, and pome crops

Starting tomorrow, Rosselkhoznadzor is introducing temporary restrictions on the import of pome crops, eggplants, potatoes, and dried fruits originating in and shipped from Armenia.

The restriction also applies to the transit of these products to EAEU member states “due to the lack of mechanisms confirming the receipt of quarantine-regulated products by these countries.”

🔵Earlier, Rosselkhoznadzor demanded that certification of fish from Armenia intended for export to Russia be suspended.

🔵The deterioration in relations between Moscow and Yerevan began after the signing of a law launching the process of Armenia’s accession to the European Union and the holding in the capital of the European Political Community summit in the spring of 2026. Among its participants, in particular, were the leaders of most European countries and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

🔵Armenia also froze the country’s membership in the CSTO back in 2024.

🔵Despite the fact that Armenia remains in the EAEU, Russia has imposed a ban on imports from the country of certain types of flowers, vegetables, fruits, the mineral water “Jermuk” and a number of other goods. In addition, Moscow threatened to suspend or denounce the agreement on supplies of gas, petroleum products, and diamonds if Yerevan continues to stick to its course toward joining the European Union.

🔵Following a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Kazakhstan in May 2026, Vladimir Putin, Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov signed a joint statement saying there is “a need to hold, in Armenia and as soon as possible, a nationwide referendum on joining the European Union or remaining within the Eurasian Economic Union.”
