Today Yekaterina Mizulina asked the Interior Ministry to examine Ksenia Sobchak’s interview with blogger Igor Sinyak for the dissemination of “LGBT propaganda.” In Mizulina’s view, the interview, published on Children’s Day, is “demonic nonsense” and “a mockery of all the state’s efforts to protect children.”

Sobchak responded by saying that, “unlike Mizulina,” she would not write denunciations against anyone and asked her not to “hide behind protecting children,” “but to admit homophobia”:

We also have people in this country who dress like Sinyak, and nobody tries to pin LGBT on them. There is a clear law, and we did not violate it. There is no propaganda of anything and no calls to anything in the video. There is a conversation with a person. A person just like us, who simply looks the way he likes.

And if you want everyone who fears your laws to keep leaving the country, then you’re on the right track. But then there is no need to hide behind children and their protection. Just admit your homophobia. Because I speak to people from every region of Russia, from cities and remote villages, and I understand that they do not have homophobia. Officials do.

And that says something specifically about officials like that.
