At a children’s camp near Nizhny Tagil, a monument to Dzerzhinsky was installed

In the settlement of Chernoistochinsk near Nizhny Tagil, a bust of Felix Dzerzhinsky, the founder and first head of the Cheka, was unveiled. The initiator of the monument’s installation was Dmitry Kostennikov, a deputy of the Nizhny Tagil City Duma from United Russia.

The bust was installed on the grounds of the former Chaika health camp, which Kostennikov bought in 2023 and is now turning into the sports-patriotic camp Pervy, Evening Vedomosti write.

Dzerzhinsky’s great-nephew Vladimir took part in the monument’s unveiling ceremony.

In April 2026, Vladimir Putin restored the name “F. E. Dzerzhinsky” to the FSB Academy.

At the end of May, journalist Mikhail Zygar wrote in his column for Der Spiegel that the monument to Dzerzhinsky is planned to be returned to Lubyanka Square in Moscow. According to his sources, the political decision has already been made.
