The European Union is preparing to ban Russians who fought against Ukraine from entering European countries.

In June, at a meeting of the European Council, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas will submit the relevant proposal for consideration.

Proposals to restrict Russian combatants from visiting European countries have been actively discussed since last fall, when, following Estonia’s national ban, the country’s Foreign Ministry began actively promoting the expansion of the restrictions to the entire EU. A similar initiative was also put forward by Czech MEP Tomáš Zdechovský, who called for the Schengen Area to be closed to everyone involved in Russian aggression against Ukraine.

We fully support this initiative and share the position of Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry that this is a timely and long-awaited step that will show every Russian that, by signing a contract to take part in a criminal war of aggression against Ukraine, he is also signing away his right to enter Europe.

In addition, we call for the restrictions to be extended to foreign citizens who signed contracts with the Russian Armed Forces. We have name-by-name lists of more than 27,000 foreigners who fought or are fighting against Ukraine. We have already published the names of more than 12,000 of them under the hashtag #Russian\Armed\Forces\mercenaries

We have also published the personal data of tens of thousands of Russian soldiers listed as AWOL, as well as wounded service members. We have information on hundreds of thousands of Russian service members, and if a decision is made to ban Russian combatants from entering European countries, we will do everything necessary to ensure that those who fought as part of the Russian Armed Forces can visit only Tuapse and Omsk.
