The House of Representatives in a preliminary reading passed the bill on military aid to Ukraine by the slimmest majority - that very one, with $8 billion and lend-lease, which they managed to drag to a vote with the help of a discharge petition.

The overall tally is 218:204 (it needed at least 218 to pass). Final vote tomorrow.

All Democrats voted for, except one (211:0, 1 did not vote).

All Republicans voted against, except seven (7:204, 7 did not vote).

The names of those seven Republicans who went against their 204 fellow party members.

What next?

Tomorrow there will be the final vote in the House, and there the bill should pass by a minimal majority.

And after that, with a high degree of probability, the bill will die in the Senate, because they simply will not bring it to a vote there. For example, just like they did not bring Lindsey Graham's bill on 500% tariffs to a vote, which - scary to think - has already been gathering dust for a year and two months.

Republicans are afraid to even sneeze without Trump's permission, and there is no such thing as a discharge petition in the Senate.

So we'll have to wait for November. Then, if Democrats somehow miraculously take the Senate (as things stand right now, they are losing), it will be possible to try to push Trump with a veto-proof majority (2/3 of the votes). That is not the only condition, but if both chambers are Democratic, then at least some options will appear. And if they do not take it, we will have to wait until 2029.
