A Helsinki court suspended the deportation of Olga and Nikita Belov to Russia

Olga and Nikita Belov are a mother and son from Russia who left for Finland after the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war. They helped Ukrainian refugees, including by working with the FinEst volunteer humanitarian center in the Finnish town of Uusikaupunki.

The Russians applied for asylum in Finland, but were denied. They tried to appeal the decisions in court, but without success. On April 24, the Belovs were summoned to the police, where they were told that deportation proceedings had begun. Shortly afterward, they were taken into custody.

The court has now suspended the decision to deport Olga and Nikita Belov until their appeal is reviewed, or until the court issues another ruling.
