Aliyev says former Russian and German officials held a secret meeting in Baku to discuss ending the war in Ukraine
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said this at a press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Bloomberg reports.
"Our territory was used for such a meeting without our knowledge. I cannot comment on the details because we were not present at the meeting. However, flight data allows me to say that a secret meeting in Baku did in fact take place," he said.
Aliyev noted that if this meeting "is intended to help bring the war to an end," then Azerbaijan "can only welcome it." According to him, it took place on July 12–14.
