“I do not deny that there is significantly more freedom in Germany. But independent media still exist in Russia, for example the daily newspaper "Kommersant." Today on stage I spoke, in the context of Ukraine, about a bloody war and the failure of the political elites — and I was not arrested. It is possible here. We are obliged to use this freedom for mediation and for conveying information,” said Berliner Zeitung publisher Holger Friedrich in an interview with the newspaper Die Zeit.

In the interview with Die Zeit, Friedrich noted that he does not support the war, but “allows himself the luxury of seeing shades” and strives to “better understand the fault lines and contradictions.”
