Nobel Peace Prize laureate and Novaya Gazeta co-founder Dmitry Muratov, speaking on CNN, addressed American negotiator Steve Witkoff. He urged him to discuss the release of Russian political prisoners at meetings with Vladimir Putin.

“When he returns, his plane flies back empty. Why can’t he ask Mr. Putin, with whom he has good relations, to release several political prisoners so they can fly out with him?” Muratov said.

According to Muratov, the issue of Russian political prisoners has almost completely disappeared from the international political and media agenda. On air, he showed photographs of theater director Zhenya Berkovich, former municipal deputy Alexei Gorinov, pianist Pavel Kushnir, pediatrician Nadezhda Buyanova, and Samara saxophonist Andrei Shabanov. He also spoke about Alexandra Strilets, whose daughter died while she was in custody.

“Nobody is interested in how political prisoners in Russia live and die. It is terrible. Please help me change this,” Muratov concluded.
