The sixth prisoner exchange of war prisoners in 2026 has just concluded.

185 defenders of Ukraine have returned home, 185 servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces were sent to the barracks of military unit 61899 in the Mosrentgen military town.

In total, since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, almost 8 thousand Russians have gone through captivity and been returned as part of prisoner exchanges. Thousands more remain in captivity in Ukraine. Among them are those who have been in captivity since the first months of 2022, servicemen of the “LDNR” units, the wounded, young men under 25, and hundreds of foreign mercenaries from 48 countries around the world. Their prolonged stay in captivity is a consequence of the Russian side's unwillingness to take back all of its prisoners of war as part of a large-scale humanitarian exchange under the “all for all” formula.

Yesterday, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called for such an exchange, which could become an important step on the path toward ending the war, in an open address to Vladimir Putin and Russians. Ukraine is ready for all prisoners of war and civilians on both sides to return home to their families immediately. Now the decision is only up to Russia.
