Armenia’s Central Election Commission one day before the vote refused to remove Samvel Karapetyan’s pro-Russian bloc from the ballot

The opposition party Republic appealed to the CEC with a demand to remove Karapetyan’s bloc. This was done after a corresponding call by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, which he made during the debates.

The prime minister’s own party, Civil Contract, did not appeal to the Central Election Commission. Pashinyan explained this by saying that he does not want to create grounds for claims that he is trying to remove opponents from the election out of fear of defeat.

The Call Was Braver Than The Signature

The CEC kept the bloc after someone else filed.

The call was public, the risk got outsourced.
