New details about the Ernst Neizvestny forgeries and the man who made them

Remember the story about fake Ernst Neizvestny sculptures at the Tretyakov Gallery? Two outlets, The Art Newspaper Russia and the BBC Russian Service, have found out the details.

Everything has only gotten more complicated. Neizvestny’s widow, Anna Graham, insists that the fakes are very crude and can be identified even from photographs. Art authentication specialist Alexander Kiselevsky believes that, on the contrary, they are of quite high quality. Another source close to the Tretyakov exhibition team is not even sure that fake works were actually shown there.

Still, something is now clear about the only person charged in the case: navy officer Maksim Koshkarev has long been interested in buying and selling various rarities, and he does not take questions of authenticity too seriously.
