Parliamentary elections have begun in Armenia. They are taking place against a backdrop of worsening relations between Yerevan and Moscow due to closer ties with the EU

Polling stations opened at 8 a.m. local time (7 a.m. Moscow time), and voting will continue until 8:00 p.m.

Armenia's Central Election Commission will begin publishing the first results at around 11:00 p.m. As News.am notes, the approximate alignment of the election results will become clear during the night, when data from the country's major cities begins to come in.

Nineteen parties and blocs are taking part in the election, including the Civil Contract party of incumbent Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the Strong Armenia bloc led by Russian billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, head of the Tashir industrial and construction group, and the Armenia bloc, headed by former President Robert Kocharyan.
