Russia and Ukraine agree on mutual transfer of citizens’ documents, including those of dead soldiers

Yana Lantratova and Dmytro Lubinets, the Russian and Ukrainian ombudsmen, agreed on a channel for transferring certificates and other necessary documents to citizens of the two countries in the absence of diplomatic relations.

We agreed that we would be that channel of interaction, of transferring these certificates. Dmytro Valeriyovych [Lubinets] said that he would help with this, and I, for my part, as well

Because we do not have diplomatic relations between our countries, if a fighter from either side dies, and his parents lived in the other country and even died, then we cannot pay them all the funds, and they cannot make payments if there are no certificates,

Yana Lantratova said.

The meeting between Lantratova and Lubinets took place on June 5 at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border during a prisoner-of-war exchange. The talks lasted more than three hours, the Ukrainian ombudsman said.
