In Chechnya, the parents of activist Mansur Movlayev, who is being held in one of Kazakhstan’s pretrial detention centers, may have been abducted

This was reported by the support group for the Chechen activist on Instagram:

Mansur Movlayev’s parents, Khava and Movsar Movlayev, were forcibly taken away to an unknown location in Chechnya. The family does not know where they are or where they were taken.

Five days ago, the support group reported that Movlayev’s brother had also been abducted and “subjected to brutal violence”:

In May 2026, he was taken to a medical facility with severe rectal injuries. At present, he cannot sit or sleep normally because of the injuries he sustained.

The support group notes that Movlayev’s brother has no connection to his opposition activities, and says the violence was an attempt to pressure the activist through members of his family.

🔹Mansur Movlayev is an engineer and a master of sports in taekwondo who was convicted in Russia in 2020 on drug charges. He himself linked this persecution to his criticism of the Chechen authorities.

In 2022, the activist was released on parole, but in August of that same year he was abducted by officers of the Chechen Interior Ministry and sent to an “illegal prison,” where he was tortured.

In 2023, he managed to flee to Kyrgyzstan, after which Movlayev was placed on the federal wanted list for financing extremism (according to 1ADAT, the money transfer attributed to him was made by the security forces themselves).

🔵Movlayev is now in Kazakhstan. At the end of February, a local court denied him asylum, and he is now being held in a pretrial detention center. In May, the investigative court of the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan extended Movlayev’s extradition arrest by another two months.
