A Russian disinformation network called “Storm-1516” has been operating in the West since 2023, actively publishing fake stories and interfering in the political processes of foreign states. The group, which is linked to the GRU, is believed to include former employees of Yevgeny Prigozhin’s “troll factory.”

“Storm-1516” has already been accused of interfering in elections in the United States, Germany, and Hungary. One of the group’s most recent operations was the publication of a fake BBC report claiming that a stolen painting by Paul Cezanne had been spotted in Volodymyr Zelensky’s office (naturally, like everything else spread by “Storm-1516,” this is false).
