Russian security forces may be using Czech software to download data from phones via Bluetooth

Equipment used by Russian border guards makes it possible to obtain contacts and call logs from an unlocked Android smartphone without a wired connection, the BARGHEST.asia team found.

The study is based on a real case in which a Russian crossing the border had his phone taken away, was told to unlock it, and then got it back a few minutes later. As BARGHEST specialists found, a border service officer connected the phone to an external device via Bluetooth and downloaded the call history and all contacts. The data extraction took 35 seconds.
