A Tyumen Man Was Given 8 Years in a Penal Colony for Telegram “Stars”
Fifty-seven-year-old Mikhail Antonovich left paid reactions under posts by Michael Naki, Alexander Nevzorov, Alexander Shpak, and Taras Berezovets. In total, he sent 130 “stars” worth 292 rubles and 99 kopecks. For this, he was accused of financing terrorism and sentenced to eight years in a high-security penal colony.
Among the posts Antonovich reacted to were a publication about an attack on a Russian ammunition depot and advice on how to make Telegram Stars less visible to other users.
Yesterday, Memorial asked Pavel Durov to make paid reactions on Telegram anonymous by default, because data about the senders of “stars” is being used in criminal cases.
And here is our guide to how Telegram Stars work and how to protect yourself when sending them.
