Russia Is Luring Foreigners to War by Offering Them Roles in a Film

In a new recruitment campaign, Russian authorities offered foreigners the chance to take part in filming a movie, Politico found.

The Facebook ad is designed in the style of an action-movie poster. It promises a “global casting call” for a new film project seeking “Africans for male roles.”

The AI-generated image shows several Black men in soldiers’ uniforms.

The African nonprofit organization Code for Africa identified at least 89 websites, seven Facebook accounts, and 39 accounts or channels on messaging apps being used to recruit foreigners in this way.
