A group of U.S. senators has urged Trump to withdraw Putin’s invitation to the G20 summit

A group of 14 U.S. senators from the Democratic and Republican parties has urged President Donald Trump to withdraw Vladimir Putin’s invitation to the G20 summit, which will take place in December in Miami, The Washington Post reports.

In their letter, they noted that Putin bears sole responsibility for Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.

“Allowing him to participate in the G20 summit in the United States raises serious concerns, as it could lead to the legitimization and normalization of relations with a government that strikes civilian targets in Ukraine every day,” the letter says.

In the senators’ view, if Putin is not isolated from the international community, he is unlikely to have an incentive to agree to a ceasefire.
