In Russia, criticism of monogamous relationships and a mention of Tinder have been cut out of a TV series for the first time

The online cinema service Amediateka cut from the Irish series “Conversations with Friends” criticism of monogamous relationships and getting married, as well as a mention of the dating app Tinder, “Verstka” noticed.

In the version available to watch on Amediateka, a scene in which the main character’s friend Bobbi criticizes conservative views on relationships has been removed. In one of the cut fragments, Bobbi is told that “some people may like being with just one person, both approaches are legitimate,” and she replies: “for some reason monogamy has become the main one. The basis of commitment should be desire, choice, and honesty.”

Disapproving remarks about getting married and having children were also cut. A fragment in the first episode was removed in which Bobbi and Frances discuss new acquaintances, and Bobbi asks: “Why do people even get married?” “That’s just what people do. People grow up, get married, and have children,” Frances replies. “Boring people,” Bobbi sums up.

Mentions of Tinder were removed from a dialogue in which the heroine tells her friends about it. In Amediateka’s version, the line “You don’t know him. Just some Tinder date” was censored. At the same time, the lines “When did you sign up there?” and “What did you write in your profile?” remained, so now from the context it is unclear which app they are talking about.

🟪On March 1, a law came into force in Russia denying distribution certificates to films that “discredit traditional values.” Under the law, owners of audiovisual services and social networks are required not to distribute such works. These may include both new and previously released films and series, including multi-episode productions.
