Author of the book ‘All Iran’ Nikita Smagin fined for cooperating with an ‘undesirable’ organization, over interviews with Meduza and other media
A court fined Middle East expert Nikita Smagin 15,000 rubles under an administrative charge of cooperating with an “undesirable” organization.
The basis for the charge, Smagin said on his Telegram channel, was his cooperation with Meduza, the TV channel Dozhd, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, The Insider, and the Carnegie Center.
“The fine, obviously, is not that important. What matters is the prospect: the next identical charge will already become a criminal case,” he wrote.
According to Smagin, the list of articles and interviews cited in the court’s ruling mainly included materials from 2024.
Still, it is already heartening that the relevant authorities are closely following my work. Maybe one of them will even buy the book in a fit of emotion.
