Dear Meduza readers, please hang in there. I have been incredibly lucky — no one (!), apart from a few former colleagues, supports the war, and my circle of acquaintances was very wide.

I worked at a school and left two years ago, although there were no “Conversations About Important Things” at our school — homeroom teachers simply held regular class hours where they discussed studies and events. The pressure on the school was certainly noticeable — sometimes they demanded photos from some patriotic events, sometimes participation in patriotic competitions, and so on. Now, as I am told, this is becoming more and more frequent.

Right now I’m being thrown from hope to hopelessness. At times it seems that the killings will stop soon, that the Russian regime will change, that something will happen, and at other times — that there is no end to the war, that police arbitrariness in our country is becoming stronger and stronger.

But the war has been going on for a very long time already, and change is inevitable — though for Russia’s residents it may turn out not to be for the better. But there are many of us — those who read Meduza, those who are against war and violence. Take care of yourselves!
