A criminal case has been opened against a Russian serviceman from the “zeroers” list over 29 episodes, including murders, bribes, and abuse of power

A criminal case covering 29 episodes has been opened against Alexander Tonilin (call sign “Toni”), a sniper with the 272nd Motor Rifle Regiment of the 1st Tank Army and a subject of Vyorstka’s special project on executions in the Russian army. Vyorstka found the case file card on the website of the 235th Garrison Military Court.

Of the charges, 20 concern abuse of official powers (Part 3 of Article 286 of the Russian Criminal Code) with aggravating circumstances. These include the use of weapons or special means, “causing grave consequences,” acting as a group, and acting out of mercenary or other personal interest.

In addition, Tonilin will be tried for the attempted murder of several people and the murder of several people by a group acting in prior conspiracy for mercenary motives.

The serviceman’s lawyer, Andrei Belsky, told Vyorstka that his client’s case consists of 30 volumes. According to Belsky, Tonilin admitted guilt and entered into a pre-trial cooperation agreement with the investigation, providing information about other participants in the crime.

“In any case, it was on the orders of the command, that is, he was not doing all this voluntarily,” the lawyer said.

Belsky did not disclose details of the charges. He added that Tonilin’s commanders have already been detained and that the materials in their cases will also be sent to court soon.

🟪Vyorstka wrote about Tonilin and other criminals in the project “Zeroers,” about servicemen who kill, torture to death, or send their fellow soldiers into deadly assaults. According to testimony from a relative of Tonilin’s fellow servicemen, he and other military personnel extorted money from their fellow soldiers and then killed them so as not to leave witnesses.
