RKN Proposed Creating a ‘Single State VPN’ for Russian Developers to Access Foreign Repositories

RKN proposed creating a “single State VPN” to give Russian developers access to foreign repositories.

The idea was voiced at a meeting with representatives of Russian IT companies by the agency’s deputy head, Oleg Terlyakov, The Bell\ writes, citing sources.

The reason for the meeting was problems accessing foreign repositories and other development resources (GitHub, Figma, PyPI, Debian, and Rust) that arose because of RKN’s fight against VPN services.

“As the main way of solving the problem, the Roskomnadzor representative said there were plans ‘to create a single State VPN with a complex structure and recommend that developers ‘go’ through it. For those who really need it, from their point of view,’” the publication’s source said.
