Today, the duration of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine matched the duration of World War I, reaching 1,568 days.

In January, we published a text for another round-number date: the Russian invasion crossed the 1,418-day mark, becoming longer than the Soviet-German war (the Great Patriotic War).

Another half-year of war has passed. Another 180,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or maimed by Ukrainian drones. From January through April, according to UN data alone, Russian troops killed 815 and wounded 4,174 Ukrainian civilians. Russia managed to capture a net total of about 50 km² of Ukrainian territory, a patch of land the size of the city of Gus-Khrustalny. Mala Tokmachka still has not been taken.

Even the most rabid Z-propagandists of the war have already grasped the insanity of a situation in which such a worthless result is paid for with such enormous sacrifices. The most vicious Ukraine-hating “man-eater” Z-bloggers are writing that what is happening to Russia is a catastrophe. After all, it is impossible not to notice how over these six months the number, precision, and effectiveness of Ukrainian drone and missile strikes have grown radically, and how the pace of the Russian troops’ advance has fallen. So why does the Russian government, with persistence better applied elsewhere, keep up this senseless war?

Simply because Vladimir Putin’s palaces are protected by dozens of air defense systems.

Colonel Puzik will not zero out the sons of Mishustin, Kiriyenko, Medvedev, Peskov, or Matvienko - they are smart, and they will not sign an assault contract for 200,000 rubles.

If Potanin, Mordashov, Usmanov, Sechin, or other oligarchs run into money problems, their losses will be compensated out of the federal budget. All the KGB men, college friends, briefcase-carriers from St. Petersburg, and Putin’s relatives do not feel the war. They do not stand in line for gasoline, they do not give a damn about inflation, and the concept of missing in action is unfamiliar to them. For them, war is a tool for holding on to power. The people have been assigned an external enemy they are supposed to hate, and Putin’s clan will rule the largest country in the world until grandpa dies of old age. That is what Russians have been dying for for 1,568 days already.
