In addition, the agreement no longer includes a requirement that systems function “predictably” and “reliably,” and a clause requiring ethical standards to be taken into account when using weapons with artificial intelligence was removed.

The agreement was discussed in early September. The WP notes that this is the first agreement setting rules for the use of lethal AI weapons. The negotiations at the UN are not currently binding, but they could pave the way for a treaty that would be legally binding.
