Russia to launch Mir payment function for smartwatches, including when the internet is off
This was announced by Yekaterina Akkuzina, head of mobile payments development at the National Payment Card System (NSPK, the operator of Mir cards), during the Technology Conference, reports Interfax.
"Payments with such devices will work even if the user has no internet access. All the information needed for offline payments is delivered to the device chips in advance, while the devices are connected to the internet," she noted.
According to her, to do this the user will need to download the Mir Pay app to the watch, add the card data using NFC or enter it manually. Then they must enter a confirmation code and give consent. Payment will be made with a single tap on the terminal. Among the first partners are two banks.
Which ones exactly is not specified.
