Against the backdrop of falling ratings, Putin has started appearing in public more often. But he still does not travel to the regions — for security reasons

Vladimir Putin in April and May began appearing in public noticeably more often than in the first three months of 2026. The outlet Faridaily reached this conclusion after studying reports about Putin’s participation in events published by the Kremlin press service. During those two months, he even paid visits to two foreign countries — China and Kazakhstan.

At the same time, Putin hardly travels around Russia. From January through May inclusive, the president of the Russian Federation officially left Moscow only twice — both times for St. Petersburg. According to a Faridaily source close to the Kremlin, Putin stopped traveling around Russia for security reasons. Abroad, in the capitals of China and Kazakhstan, ensuring security in terms of infrastructure is easier, he said, than, for example, in Ryazan or Kemerovo.
