Taxes, fees, and rising prices. What else may await Russians after the Duma elections?

Immediately after the State Duma elections, just as Verstka had predicted, the authorities began talking about unpopular measures. In the past week alone, increases in tariffs, new taxes, and worsening terms for important social programs have been announced.

In particular, taxes will be raised on dividends, interest on deposits, income from securities, and a number of other transactions. The authorities want to extend a 22% VAT to foreign purchases, and also introduce a fee of 100 rubles for every parcel worth up to 200 euros.

Housing and utilities tariffs will rise by an average of 9.9% from October 1, 2026, and from July 2027 by 11% instead of the previously planned 8.7%. A technology fee on electronics will also be introduced: the base rate for a smartphone is 373 rubles, and for a laptop, 746 rubles.

In addition, the terms of the family mortgage program will change from October 1: the rate will now depend on the number of children and may range from 2% to 10% (in Moscow and the Moscow region, up to 12%), while the subsidy period will be limited to 15 years.
