A State Duma Deputy Said Russia Is “On the Brink of a Social Explosion” and Needs a “Clear Plan to End the SMO”
State Duma deputy from the Communist Party Vyacheslav Markhayev published a post on his Telegram channel in which he said that Russia is “on the brink of a social explosion,” and that full responsibility for it “will fall on the irremovable government.”
He noted that utility tariffs continue to rise, the infrastructure inherited from the USSR is collapsing, and “the money is going not to repairing the networks, but to yachts, palaces, and foreign assets.” According to him, “the pockets of representatives of the authorities and the elites close to them are not running empty.”
Markhayev demanded that there be “real accountability for officials for failure to implement laws and direct orders of the president,” and also that a “clear, public plan for ending the SMO be presented, proceeding from Russia’s national interests.”
💜As “Verstka” previously wrote, Russian officials have acknowledged a crisis in government and are trying to figure out how to live with it. The highest circles close to Putin, apparently, feel quite confident. But lower-level functionaries are nervous: one such official tells “Verstka” that if Putin’s power collapses, he and his colleagues “have no future,” and “everyone understands this, although no one says it.”
