A congress of the party being created by Ilya Yashin has opened in Berlin. Its logo was unveiled, and it is a cat
On June 12 and 13, Berlin is hosting the founding congress of the political party that, as politician Ilya Yashin has announced, will represent the interests of opposition-minded Russians.
Photos from the congress published by media outlets and by the delegates themselves show banners with the name “Peaceful Forces of Russia” and the party’s logo, a stylized image of a cat.
The party does not yet have an official name. Yashin wrote that the organizing committee had proposed calling it “Peaceful Forces of Russia,” but that this, in his words, “predictably sparked discussion on social media.” There were also reports that the party was going to be called “Peaceful Russia.”
According to Yashin, the name contains an important historical reference. “In December 2011, speaking at a protest rally of one hundred thousand people in Moscow, Alexei Navalny said: ‘I see enough people in this square to storm the Kremlin. But we are a peaceful force,’” he recalled.
