Pashinyan congratulated Putin on Russia Day

“I am convinced that the multifaceted ties between the peoples of the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation, as well as the mutual readiness for an open and constructive dialogue based on respect for each other’s sovereignty and state interests, will continue to contribute to strengthening cooperation and making use of the full range of opportunities for collaboration between our countries,” the congratulatory message on the Armenian prime minister’s website says.

Vladimir Putin did not congratulate Nikol Pashinyan on his party’s victory in the parliamentary elections on June 7.

On June 11, Pashinyan confirmed that there had been no congratulations from Putin and said: “Let’s hope he congratulates us.”

Recently, relations between Russia and Armenia have sharply deteriorated. Moscow accuses Nikol Pashinyan’s government of pursuing a pro-Western course. In response to Yerevan’s attempts to move closer to the European Union, Russia has begun imposing restrictions on imports of products from Armenia.
