Russia struck the Institute for Nuclear Research in Kyiv
The Kyiv research reactor located at the institute was not damaged, Ukraine’s State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate reported.
The strike was carried out on the evening of September 30. There were no casualties. An investigation and assessment of the damage caused are ongoing.
The reactor itself and systems important for safety were not damaged. No changes in the radiation background have been recorded; its levels remain within the natural background range (0.16–0.20 µSv/h) and have not changed,
the agency said.
🔵The Institute for Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is the country’s leading research institution in nuclear physics, nuclear energy, and radioecology. The VVR-M reactor is used as a neutron source for fundamental and applied research in nuclear physics. The inspectorate calls this strike “an attack on a peaceful nuclear installation performing an exclusively scientific and research function.”
