Rogozin proposed mining shadow fleet tankers

A couple of blasts right under their noses, with an oil spill and the corresponding environmental consequences, and they’ll immediately come to their senses.

That was how Dmitry Rogozin, a senator from the occupied part of Zaporizhzhia region and former head of Roscosmos, reacted to today’s detention by Britain of the Russian “shadow fleet” tanker Smyrtos.

In the senator’s view, the explosive devices should be activated “upon receipt of the appropriate command” — for example, if the vessel is forced into a foreign port or deviates from its route.

He compared Britain’s interception of the vessel to the practice of the 16th and 17th centuries, when the English crown issued private ships permission to seize enemy vessels. According to Rogozin, London still uses “piracy” in its political and economic interests.
