‘Signing in via Google won’t work in Russia’ — services have started banning registration through Google accountsUPD: Avito’s press service said that logging in via Google had already been unavailable for three years: “technically, nothing has changed for users since 2023.”

When trying to register on Avito through a Google account, the service says this is not possible:

By law, you cannot log in to or register on Avito using foreign services. Use another method or restore access by phone.

At the same time, the button for registering on Avito via a Google account is still there for now. On many popular Russian services, it disappeared long ago. Ostorozhno, Novosti note that you can still link a Google email to an already existing account on the service.

🔵On June 9, the State Duma passed a bill introducing fines of up to 700,000 rubles for owners of Russian websites that allow users to log in through foreign services.

🔵Since December 1, 2023, Federal Law No. 406-FZ has been in force in Russia, which requires Russian website owners to authenticate users located in Russia via a mobile phone number, Gosuslugi, the Unified Biometric System, or another Russian authorization system.
