Putin associate Ilya Traber has been sent to pretrial detention in the case over the murder of the “master of Vyborg,” Alexander Petrov. What else is known about Petrov?
In Moscow, Ilya Traber, the owner of an oil port in Ust-Luga, has been placed under arrest in the cases concerning the murder of Vyborg businessman and deputy Alexander Petrov (which took place back in 2020) and illegal arms trafficking. Traber, a St. Petersburg native known by the nickname Antikvar, was friends with Vladimir Putin in the 1990s and retained major influence in the city up through 2026.
Searches in the murder case also took place at the home of one of the leaders of the Tambov-Malyshev organized crime group, Gennady Petrov (he shares a last name with Alexander). After the murder of Alexander Petrov in 2020, What Happened podcast host Vladislav Gorin discussed his figure with crime reporter and Fontanka deputy editor-in-chief Yevgeny Vyshenkov.
