“I can’t say that these people won’t face trouble in Armenia.” Mikhail Verbitsky’s lawyer Vache Simonyan on how safe Armenia is for anti-war Russians

On June 12, mathematician and blogger Mikhail Verbitsky was detained in Armenia. In Russia, he was placed on the wanted list for “discrediting” the army and justifying terrorism (the mathematician had cast doubt on the methods used to investigate the Crocus City Hall terrorist attack).

As early as June 15, Verbitsky was released from custody, but, according to lawyer Vache Simonyan, he was not being allowed to fly out of Armenia to Israel, where Verbitsky had planned to go.

Meduza asked Simonyan how the system of information exchange between the Russian and Armenian Interior Ministries works, and how safe it is for Russians with a public anti-war position to stay in Armenia.
