A Russian warship fired warning shots at a British yacht in the English Channel

As Sky News reports, the incident occurred on the morning of June 16. It was reportedly the Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich and a yacht that approached it in the strait.

The UK Ministry of Defence received a report about the incident and launched an investigation. According to the ministry, the yacht is registered in the United Kingdom. Why it approached the ship is unclear. No injuries were reported.

On June 14, the UK authorities for the first time detained the tanker Smyrtos flying the Cameroonian flag, which was attempting to pass through the English Channel. London linked the vessel to Russia’s “shadow fleet.” The UK Ministry of Defence does not connect the incident involving the warship with the detention of the tanker, Sky News writes.
