In 2026, Russia ran into a problem recruiting new contract soldiers for the war.

Every month, Ukraine’s Defense Forces kill and maim 35,000-40,000 Russian servicemen. At the same time, the Russian army is replenished every month by about 30,000 new contract soldiers. About a quarter of them are a special contingent: convicts, people under investigation, defendants on trial, as well as citizens with enforcement proceedings against them.

Now not only money is being used, but other methods as well. “Recruiters” receive a reward for every man they bring in to sign a contract. The selection criteria are essentially nonexistent: they will take an old homeless man, a person with hepatitis, or a cripple missing fingers. The recruiter gets paid, the military commissar fulfills the plan. What will happen to such people at the front interests no one.

The Plan Matters More Than Recruits

Recruitment runs on payouts and men taken with no real screening.

The quota matters, the rest goes as is.
