Zelensky promised to step up strikes on Russian oil refineries and said the FP-9 missile will be ready before winter. The Russian Defense Ministry responded that it will intensify strikes on Ukraine

Ukraine will intensify strikes on Russian oil refineries, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with Reuters. According to him, this is a response to Russia’s new tactic — Ukrainian intelligence, he said, obtained documents showing that ahead of winter Putin had authorized strikes on a much wider range of civilian targets. The tactic is needed to force people to leave Kyiv and other cities, he claims.

Zelensky also said that he had called the management of Fire Point and demanded that they finish the FP-9 ballistic missile faster, which, according to the manufacturer, is capable of reaching Moscow. “Where is my FP-9?” he recounted asking, adding that he is confident the missile “will be ready this autumn.”

In response, Russia’s Defense Ministry said it will intensify strikes on Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine and suggested blaming Zelensky for it:

The population of Ukraine should blame only the head of the Kyiv regime for this. It is Zelensky who bears full personal and political responsibility for it.

The military department calls Russia’s attacks a response to Kyiv’s actions. Among those actions are attacks which, according to the ministry, Ukraine used to try to disrupt State Duma elections, an attempt to attack Moscow on September 19-20 with more than 1,600 drones, and tonight’s strike on residential areas of Belgorod.
