The crash occurred during a training flight. The fighter was not carrying weapons, a source told Kommersant. Russia’s Investigative Committee opened a criminal case over violation of flight rules or preparation for them.

The Defense Ministry told TASS that the aircraft crashed in an unpopulated area. The agency did not name the exact crash site or the aircraft model to the state news agency. It only said that it was a combat trainer aircraft:

On July 23 of this year, a combat trainer aircraft crashed in the Moscow region while taking off. The pilot ejected and his life is not in danger. The aircraft crashed in an unpopulated area, and there is no damage on the ground

Ostorozhno, Novosti had earlier written that the fighter jet crashed into a field between the Zvenigorod microdistrict of Shikhovo and the village of Lukino.
