EU ambassadors agree on a new package of sanctions against Russia
Irish Foreign Minister Helen McEntee reported this.
“Glad that in the first weeks of Ireland’s presidency we managed to agree on the 21st package of sanctions. This package delivers a further blow to Russia’s sources of revenue, restricts the activity of its ‘shadow fleet,’ and disrupts supply chains,” she wrote on social network X.
European Council President Antonio Costa said that “the sanctions package targets the most significant sectors: energy, financial services, cryptocurrencies, and trade.”
As Deutsche Welle reports, EU ambassadors agreed on an exemption allowing the transport of Russian gas to third countries for one year with automatic renewal. It is claimed that the price cap on Russian oil was left at the previous level.
The sanctions package must be approved by the EU Council.
