The FSB has decided to sharply lower physical fitness requirements for candidates for military contract service

The FSB plans to lower the passing scores for physical fitness for candidates for military service under contract in the security agencies, as well as for applicants to the agency’s educational institutions. As “Verstka” noted, this follows from a draft FSB order published on the legal acts draft portal.

The new document is meant to replace the current FSB order from 2016. In the updated version of the document, the agency proposes revising the minimum physical fitness requirements and introducing a new age scale

For the youngest candidates, the passing threshold would not change if the new order is adopted. But for candidates in other categories, the scores will be noticeably reduced. The most significant drop in requirements is for the oldest candidates.

For example, for those aged 40-44 the requirement will be 80 points (42.9% less than now), for those aged 45-49 it will be 70 points (50%, or half), and for men aged 50 and older it will be just 60 points (a 57.1% reduction, more than half).

The physical fitness test for the main category of candidates will include one exercise each for strength, speed, and endurance. Men may be assigned pull-ups on a horizontal bar or a bench press, a 100-meter run or shuttle run, as well as a one- or three-kilometer run or a five-kilometer ski race.

According to the admission rules, citizens who have not served in the military may enter FSB educational institutions from age 16 to 22, while those who have served or are serving may do so up to age 24. Therefore, the 30+, 40+, and 50+ categories in the new order apply only to candidates for contract service.
