A native of Russia turned out to be the handler of the series of arsons targeting British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s property, media report

In the spring of 2025, a series of arsons took place involving property linked to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Today, a jury in London found two men guilty of conspiracy to commit arson, the BBC Russian Service writes.

Those found guilty were 22-year-old Ukrainian citizen Roman Lavrynovych and 27-year-old Romanian citizen of Ukrainian origin Stanislav Karpyuk.

🔹The prosecution told the court that Lavrynovych had been recruited by a Russian-speaking Telegram user with the nickname EL. A BBC investigation says it was part of a “large-scale campaign of sabotage, provocations, and disinformation whose traces lead directly to the Russian state.”

🔹The BBC writes that EL is “a young Russian diplomat who was trained by intelligence and propaganda specialists in the methods of information warfare and who is close to the highest echelons of power in Moscow.” The outlet reports that his name is Yevgeny Lyukshin, he is 23 years old, and he is the “son of a high-ranking official.”

🔹According to The Insider, Yevgeny Lyukshin is the son of Alexander Lyukshin, chief adviser in the Department of the Situational-Crisis Center of the Foreign Ministry. The outlet writes that the Lyukshins are registered in Moscow at an address where departmental apartments for the SVR were allocated. The investigation says that Lyukshin Sr.’s car movements also point to ties with the SVR.

🔹A Financial Times investigation says that EL is closely linked to the pro-Kremlin hacker group NoName057(16).
