After Russia jailed Alexei Moskalyov because his sixth-grade daughter drew an anti-war picture at school, it is no longer possible to be surprised by anything even more absurd and cannibalistic. So the sentence handed down to Oleg Kuvaev, the creator of “Masyanya,” came as no surprise. The country needs some kind of victories, even if they are over a cartoon.

A “court” in St. Petersburg sentenced Oleg Kuvaev in absentia to 4 years for “calls against state security” and for violating requirements connected with the status of a “foreign agent.”

This concerns the 169th episode of “Masyanya” – “Idoliada”, which Kuvaev released in 2023. On YouTube alone, it has been watched by 1.8 million people. In this episode, Masyanya appealed to Russians not to go to war, and urged those who had already ended up at the front to contact the “I Want to Live” project.

Pav Laich could not endure such a blow to “state security.”

This cannibalistic absurdity will become another shameful page in Russia’s history. But alongside it will remain the names of people who did not betray human values, were not afraid to call things by their names, and resisted the regime as much as they could.
