Lithuanian authorities confirmed the deportation of a Russian man, but said he agreed to return to Russia voluntarily

This was stated to LRT by Lithuania's State Border Guard Service (VSAT).

As the service's representative Giedrius Mišutis said, the man was detained on December 29 after illegally crossing the border from the Russian side. For this, he was given a sentence of four months and 20 days in prison.

"Four months passed from his detention at the end of December to the filing of his asylum request," he noted.

At the beginning of June, the man voluntarily withdrew from further consideration of his asylum request and stated his wish to return to Russia.

"On June 1, he voluntarily wrote a statement terminating the consideration of his asylum request and expressed a desire to return home," Mišutis claims.

After that, the Migration Department took his statement into account and on June 8 terminated the consideration of his asylum application, while simultaneously deciding on his return to Russia.
