Dozens of medical college students in Bratsk were told they were being expelled and offered the option of going to war. The Health Ministry called it a “technical error”

35 students at the Bratsk Medical College were expelled and offered the option of signing a military contract with the Defense Ministry and going to war, or “studying for another six months” on a paid basis, local journalist Elena Kutergina reported on June 16.

One of the students told the journalist that she was expelled immediately after the state exam, without being shown its results. According to the student, neither she nor her classmates “had any academic debts; all exams and practicals had been passed.”

After the story became public, the Irkutsk Region Health Ministry said that a “technical error” had occurred and that “the situation has been resolved in the students’ favor.” Officials explained it as an “error in uploading the results.”
