“Not exactly clean work.” Recruiters have begun buying databases with phone numbers of potential contract soldiers because of intense competition

From posts on VKontakte, Telegram and Avito to buying databases with phone numbers — military recruiters in Russia have started paying for lists of “hot candidates” for signing a contract, Verstka found. The phone number of one man who recently visited a website about service in the “SVO” can cost from 1,600 to 2,800 rubles.

Recruiter Vladimir explains that competition is now so intense that it is “advisable” to call candidates within a few hours after receiving the numbers.

“All of this is complete bullshit, as a rule,” another recruiter says. “The seller gives no guarantees and may simply sell a database of numbers for cold calls. Or numbers already worked through by other agencies. They write that they guarantee a replacement, but in practice either there is none, or they swap it for the same trash.”

Recruiters can spend up to 200,000 rubles a month on paying for numbers and other advertising costs, but the expenses pay off with a fee of 200,000-300,000 for each candidate brought in.

“If you take the fat months — April-May — I earned about one and a half million,” Vladimir told Verstka.
